Unsatisfactory Printer Profile for Ilford Galerie Smooth Glossy

2006-06-07 by Johnny Eades

Help Folks,

I've been making printer profiles for the papers I usually use--Epson
HW Matte, H'muhle Matte Photo Paper, and now Ilford Galerie Smooth
glossy. All the others have given me very good results, buth this one
is a humdinger--nothing but trouble.

I completed the process using PrintFixPro and made printer profile #1;
which gave very muddy results in the print and the proofing in
PhotoShop also. I know RC paper should dry right away, but I reread it
later today from yesterday's color squares. Not very much of a
surprise that I got different LAB readings today. Maybe it dries right
away but does need some time to CURE. I created printer profile #2 and
it was like the first one in that the print and the proof looked
awful. If this was the first printer profile I had created, I would
assume it was operator error on my part, but the success I've had with
the pinter profiles before this lead me to think my procedure is
correct. Just for curiosity's sake, I ran a print through using the
Epson HW Matte profile and printed it on the Ilford Galerie Smooth
Glossy and other than some splotchy colors, it looked better color
matched to the monitor than the profile that's been giving me trouble
with the glossy paper. Does anyone have any similar experience and has
solved it satisfactorily??

Your friend in Photography,

Johnny
