Dell 2407

My Dell 2407 is way too bright. (they all are)  Calibration doesn't 
help much.  Before I calibrate it again, I'm wondering what presets 
might be recommended.  If I dial back the brightness, I lose shadow 
detail.  If I turn down the RGB controls equally, will I get better 
results?  Suggestions?
