On my 2405 I did a combination of both. I found that it works very
well. One thing I noticed was that there was a considerable warmup
time for the monitor. I found this strange since I thought the
backlight on a LCD should be fairly constant. Only drawback is when
playing games. I have yet tried to use the video driver to switch
profiles when game launches.
On Windows (and this sounds like Windows you are describing), many games bypass the videocard corrections in order to speed things up, and control video themselves. So you may not get the color calibration corrections under such games. Same is true for Windows videostreams, which is why its difficult to color manage Windows home theater systems without SpyderTV. On the Mac, the OS loads the video corrections from your profile for you, and they are used for games and videostreams as well as other programs, so you can play games, or run a home theater, on a Mac via Spyder2PRO, without needing SpyderTV.
