Also my new PrintFix Pro Suite was waiting for my arrival.

Always fun to have new toys to play with... this one is especially fun, as its a nice mix of techie stuff, and ease of use...

The black clamshell like storage box is a nice presentation! Very functional also.

Yes, in doing a competitive review of the other devices (I was going to say in this price range, but they really aren't in this price range), one of the things that suprised me was that neither the EyeOne Photo nor the Pulse shipped in a carton intended for reuse. Most of the Gretag stuff ships in this origami-like paper packaging that is kind of cool, but... well, you'd need the patience of Buddha to fit the parts back in; they are clearly not intended for reuse. The Pulse has a box that would require tearing everything apart and putting important items away in the very bottom, two layers down, under a cardboard shelf that says "Look Under Here" on it, which just isn't going to happen on a practical reuse basis. Pulse also ships with this rather odd plastic-coated foam fitted strip in the box that you might pull out and reuse as a cradle for monitor and print profiling devices, but it doesn't hold all the parts, and would leave everything out on the desk all the time (and I have to wonder what all that plasticizer in the rubber-donut material would do to the lenses and filters in the devices over time).

Frankly, the Pulse has to sit out anyways, as it needs to be plugged in to charge. I can barely keep track to keep my cell phone and iPod charged, now I have one more thing to USB charge... I'll have to see over time if the value in being able to make an occasional untethered reading is more useful than the whole charging thing is inconvenient.

So, (sorry for the sidetrip), we thought it would be nice to have an actual reusable case for PrintFIX PRO and PrintFIX PRO Suite, and the cigarbox style shelf-case we used to ship the Spyder in came to mind; everyone loved that. This case is a larger version of it with cutouts for the Spyder and the Spectro, plus the other components. Hopefully it will actually get used for storage and occasional travel.
