PFP allows you to measure and export measurement data for linearization and curve-based CreateICC profile creation with QTR. This should be true with most any inkset... though I hear more about it with MIS inks, since more QTR users seem to use them.
I admit the only way I used PFP is to make color profiles to use with
QImage.
Thats one other usage... there are a couple of others, but if thats how you intend to print your color, and your black and white, then these two uses should be all you need.
