Workflow is to linearlize the printer using the desired paper, and the correct paper type in the driver. This means that the gray patches in the PFP target will actually come out gray. Then print the target (no reason to use anything but the 225 patch one page target until you are convinced your workflow is ideal). Turning off color management in the driver while printing targets is critical. If you have any suspicions about how PFP and your printer driver settings are interacting, then open the TIFF format version of the target in Photoshop, and print from there. Do the colors and grays look identical to the PFP printed target? If not, measure from the Photoshop version, and build your profile from that. Then, again, if you sense problems, open the PDI color, and ColorVision B&W test images in Photoshop, and print using your new profile in the Print with preview window, setting the printer profile in the color management section of this window, and turning off color management in the driver, plus using the same media setting as when you linearized and printed the profile target. View your test prints under a 5000k light source, not incandescent lighting, and let me know if you find any improvements in your results from the suggestions made here...
