Am I doing something wrong, or is this a hardware fault? Make sure Windows recognizes your spectro when you plug it into the USB port. Sometimes the same thing happens to me, but I found that it is faster to use the Enter key than to press the top of the spectro. My system is to turn the target upside down (I am right-handed) and pull the spectro in, rather than push it out. This allows me to more quickly position the eye of the spectro over the patches, and I tape down the corners of the target so that I don't need my left hand to hold the paper. I then use my left index finger to tap the Enter key as I pull the spectro to the next patch. I listen for the click sound that tells me the patch is read, and once I get the cadence, I am able to zip through a target sheet. HTH.... YMMV.
