Are you saying that in the examples you cited that these outfits
ended up switching back to using the Epson RGB driver and the PFP
profiles from their previous use of imageprint? That's quite
interesting.
Yes, it hurts people's feelings to have paid for a RIP, and end up using the free driver, but you tend to get over it with time... particularly if your prints look better. Besides, a RIP is the gift that keeps on taking... you have to pay them money annually in many cases, to keep the RIP current, and to get continued support.
I have to admit that I am not totally sold on the IP interface but it
does work & I do like the Phatte black option. (I am not particlaurly
keen to go back to the Epson driver & Qimage...) Being able to profile
the IP output with the Phatte black option would have been my first
choice but I understand that that isn't really a viable option.
There are various reasons for using a RIP. The Epson 9000 has no OS X driver, so thats one reason to run a RIP. Many wide format Epsons have the problem with swapping from matte to photo blacks, so thats another, though a compromise... and other users want the layout options.
