>I want to profile a printer remote from me for a friend. >Should I print the patches to a file for him to print No, it's not going to work if you print anything; you need your friend to print the patches and mail them to you. >or is there a >place to download the targets? If you open the Targets subfolder in the PrintFIX PRO/Spyder3Print application folder, you'll see .tif versions of all of the targets there. Email your friend a copy of the 225 patch target, and then: - Ask your friend to open the target in Photoshop. (If not Photoshop, then this isn't going to work). Make sure that Photoshop leaves the target .tif raw/untagged on opening it; Photoshop shouldn't convert it to a working space. - Then have your friend print the target, from Photoshop, the same way that he/she would be printing with the driver set up when using the profile you'll build. This means going into the printer driver (as we all know); selecting the paper type, output quality/speed, etc; and color management has to be turned off; the same way you'd be doing this when printing the target directly from either PFP or Photoshop on your own system. By doing this, they're making the same kind of target print that you would make; but they'll be doing it using their printer/paper/ink on their system. It's crucial that they print the target correctly. - Then your friend physically mails you their target print; you measure it and build a profile; then email them the profile, along with instructions on how to use it. >Does the software run without a password as far as patch printing goes >or is there a demo version that can be used? They can also download PFP installer (it's been moved to the Legacy section on the ColorVision web site) or the Spyder3Print installer; run it in demo mode; and they should be able to print the targets directly that way as well, without taking the Photoshop route. (after installing and launching the software, click Demo instead of entering a serial number). Best regards, -- David Miller Senior Software Developer, Digital Color Solutions ColorVision
