The colorimeter window allows you to create any RGB color mix on screen, and measure it, getting XYZ, etc... colorimetric values back. You can measure any flat color patch on screen (not much logic to measuring non-flat color values), just pay attention to what type of color management is involved, if the patch is not actually in the colorimeter window. After all, an "AbobeRGB" color patch will be converted on the fly to your display profile, if you measure it in Photoshop, so the RGB values the eyedropper will give you are NOT the ones the screen is presenting to the colorimeter.
