I am curious how the tv calibration works? I have not found a review
or anything that explains how the Tv calibration works? I find
reviews of monitor calibration all over but no review or how to for Tv
Calibration.
TVs don't have videocards and computers available for the type of calibration and profiling that computer displays get. So TV calibration uses the adjustments available on all TVs (a much longer list of adjustments than you get on most monitors these days; when you switch a display from computer mode to TV mode, suddenly there are all these adjustments available...)
So what Spyder3TV does is take measurements that tell you how to adjust the key corrections in the TV mode: Color, Tint, Brightness, Contrast, and Whitepoint. You could fool around with all these adjustments by eye, but without being omniscent, it would be difficult to adjust such a large set of interactive adjustments optimally. The Spyder does it objectively, and consistantly, to optimize the results.
Secondly in your opinion I can either afford to upgrade my Spyder2 for
a Spyder3 for monitor calibration or stick with my Spyder2 for now and
get a Spyder3 for tv? What do you recommend is the Tv Calibration
really worth it? I use my monitor and my 28" HDTV monitor using
component input to watch videos from my computer. I was thinking of
going with Spyder3 Tv and later when the software becomes available
than upgrade from Spyder2 Pro for monitor to the Spyder3.
I would suggest getting Spyder3Elite for your monitors, and when things settle down, there should be a cross-grade offer of some type that will allow you to add Spyder3TV functions.
