If your native blackpoint is lower than .40, that would be one possible cause, and you should considering resetting your target black to match, unless you are tuning multiple displays to match one another. The more likely reason is that your native white luminance is brighter than 125, so that the result of calibration, under the same ambient light, will look less punchy.
