I have a new Dell widescreen and right now, with PSCS3, whenever I look 
at bridge and choose an image; I have a "settling" or refining of the 
image when it comes into the preview box on my default page in PS.

I'm not technically inclined and don't investigate all of my settings, 
etc.  That's why I end up asking so many questions.  

Please be tolerant of this newbie.
