The differences you are describing would be fractional a* values,  
which are right at the border of what can be measured and controlled.  
And while neutral is the goal, a bit magenta is a whole lot more  
acceptable than even a tiny bit green, so the bias is to err on that  
side, if at all. You've found the balance that works for you, which is  
the important thing (and the reason I built that particular preset, as  
well; for many combinations it's just the right nudge).
