Actually, what our software asks you to do is to NOT mess with the RGB gains controls. You have to go into the advanced prefs just to access that feature, and there is still a suggestion that its best to not adjust them on most LCDs. You have discovered the reason why: since its not a truly independent control set, they don't function in a truly independent way, and the result can be a death spiral, where attempts at increased balance only make things worse.
