Just a question here but .. if the brand shows through the paper
enough that the patch reader can detect a difference between a "clean"
patch and a branded patch .... does it mar your picture unless it also
is mounted on a dark substrate?

If you were trying to be as accurate as possible the reading should
technicaly be done on the mounting substrate.  Any difference less
than one delta E is by definition going to be extremely difficult to
see for the average person.
