Is there any relative advangage / disadvantage to using tri-stimulus
CIE XYZ values as a profile connection space? Certainly its not the
best for gamut mapping but simply for translating colors does it matter?
XYZ has advantages for monitor and monitor-like connection spaces, such as one channel (Y) being the luminance component, thus leaving only two variables to describe colors, and that Y channel being the same Y as in xyY, allowing colors to be described in xy values. It is not an appropriate connection space for print purposes, which is why output profiles use L*a*b*.
