Calibrating the Spectrocolorimeter

Calibrating the Spectrocolorimeter

2006-09-22 by Rocky Egner

Hello:)

I was wondering:

When I received my PFP Suite the other day I tried to calibrate the
Spectro for the first time before reading my first color chart. The
calairation procress first required that Spectro read the "Black" on
the spectro stand. It processed and asked to read the "White". I kept
getting an error message at this point.

I contacted Colorvision and they told me I need to upgrade my software
version to 1.1.1

I noticed that after the upgrade, whenever I calibrate the spectro it
requires I read the White patch only. It does not ask to read the Black.

Is it important for spectro to calibrate to black as well as white for
proper calibration?

If so, perhaps this may be some of my problems with shadows and
reddish being printed out as green? Referring to original post:

The latest software does away with the black calibration as it's not needed.

That is correct, and is one of the reasons they asked you to upgrade...

Its important for your spectro to be black calibrated; its not important to recalibrate black in the field. Unlike white, black does not vary with temperature, so the same factory black calibration can be used indefinately.
