# Of Patches with Print Fix Pro

# Of Patches with Print Fix Pro

2007-02-15 by john dean

I'm just starting to make profile with PFP. I like the interface.

I've looked in the database here but I still can't find a definitive
answer to whether one should use 225 or 729 Patches to profile a 9600
on glossy Innova and Epson media.

Do you guys SEE any difference?

I assumed the 729 patch capability is used for more difficult inksets
and media but I'm not sure.

Hi John!

I would start with the 225 patch target and the 238 Extended Grays;
do all of your initial profiling and tests with those; and then, later
on, see if you can produce a visibly better profile by substituting a 729
patch measurement for the 225. This will also keep your measuring time
down.

The best way to do this is to print all of the targets at once, so that
at least they'll all have the same drying down time. Then save the 729
patch target print for later measurements.

(You do have the 2.0 version of PFP installed, correct?)

No Hell,I just bought this PFP package but it has 1.1 installed.

What am I missing? Do I need to reprint these patches?

No, you don't need to reprint anything. (And if you've already measured,
those measurements are still good). But any profiles you may have already
built, you'll want to rebuild with the 2.0 software from any existing
measurements you'd taken).

Download the 2.0 installer from the ColorVision web site;

Uninstall the 1.1 version, with the spectro unplugged (you're running
Windows, if I recall)

Install the 2.0 version, and run that from now on. The 2.0 version has
the Extended Grays target and all of the new, advanced controls.

Thanks Dave,

I should have checked your website before beginning this. I'm just
getting going so this is good to know.

No problem...:-)

Also, just to reiterate (this has come up here several times recently,
I wonder why...) you'll need a PFP 2.01 beta if you want to run under
Vista.
