Thoughts on buying PrinFix (not "PRO") at this stage ?

Thoughts on buying PrinFix (not "PRO") at this stage ?

2007-08-04 by Ramón G Castañeda

Being on a fixed, meager disability income, buying the current
PrintFix Pro is beyond my reach at this time or in the foreseeable
feature.

Does anybody have a comment on the desirability of acquiring the
Legacy version of PrintFix (not "PRO") at this late stage in the game?

Incidentally, I have obtained phenomenally good results in calibrating
my dual 22" CRT monitors with the replacement sensor I received from
ColorVision to replace what was obviously a defective SpyderPro
monitor calibrator (not Spyder2).

Thanks in advance.

Anyone using the software that comes with the legacy PrintFix (pre
"pro") in Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.10?

I would certainly recommend against it. It does not provide the level of precision newer printer models would require, which is one reason it has not been updated to support them. With the summer rebate thats going on, the 'real fix' (PrintFIX PRO) is under $300, and offers spectro quality results, and supports any inkjet (and lots of other printers), not just a limited list of older inkjet models, as PrintFIX does.

My photo printer is the Epson 2200, not one of the more recent ones. :-(

My main aim is/was to profile certain canvas papers, like Pictorico's
Premium Canvas.

The legacy PrintFix is about half that (new old stock); I'll look
into the rebate program too, of which I was not aware, but I doubt I
can swing it, especially if the summer rebate program expires.

Thank you for the very prompt and helpful input.

There was one noted on another list recently that had if for well under
300, one I wasn't very familiar with. But Amazon has it for $300
(counting rebate, in all cases) with free shipping, which came out to
about the same price (since there was shipping from the other
reseller), from a well known dealer with excellent return policies.

David, can you tell me some dealers offering PrintFix Pro at "under
300" ?

Thanks

The below link is the one mentioned on that other list...but it's moot point as they raised the
price from about $280.00 to $380.00...I'd go with Amazon:

The only ColorVision "rebate" I found online was at Adorama, and it
says it expired on July 31st. There's nothing on the ColorVision site
hinting at any rebates. :-(

$407 seems to be the lowest price.

The "legacy" PrintFix is just a bit over a third of that ($160 or so,
new old stock). Is it really that worthless, especially for an Epson
2200?

 Thinking wishfully… ;-)

You should take note that no one here is recommending PrintFix, even
David who is associated with the product. Every review I can find
online for it is, at best, only neutral and usually negative. The new
product, PrintFix Pro, however is getting great reviews. I have it and
am very happy with it.

I would save my money by not getting the legacy PrintFix. If you only
have a couple of papers for which you need profiles, consider using one
of the services that will provide you a target to print and mail to
them to create a custom profile. You could also save up until you have
enough to buy the Pro version.

I hope this helps,
Rollin

Summer rebates tend to be renewed, and run for the whole summer. Wait a
few days and see if this is going to be true for the PrintFIX PRO
rebate or not...

Duly and cheerfully noted. I've given up on the idea.

That, unfortunately, won't happen. I'll just stay away from papers
for which there is no satisfactory profiles available.

 Yes, it certainly has.

 Thanks.
