Hello To Everyone
2006-02-20 by Kris
Hello everyone, it's amazing how quickly people are joining the forum! I'm Kris Moler, and in case you don't know who I am, I am also the moderator on the EpsonWideFormat group on Yahoo. I'm happy to be a part of this forum, and commit to being totally un-biased, and will always follow John V's ideals with regard to the rules of the forum. Many of you don't know my background, but I think it's appropriate to give a brief summary... My first job out of college was "Tech Support". I have lots of funny stories, but it doesn't relate directly to my background, except maybe for a little patience. I was at Mitsubishi in the early '80s when dye-sublimation photo printers were introduced. Way before there was a concept of digital photo reproduction (or color management for that matter), we could produce a photograph on a desktop printer with amazing results. Later I was involved with high-res laser printers, more dye-sub, and finally my first foray into large-format, at a small company in california. Dissatisfied with the ability for the company to come out from the shadow of Lasermaster, I moved to Raster Graphics in San Jose. At Raster, I was the Sr. Product Manager for new products, and helped to launch the first large format piezo-based inkjet printer. I was also assigned product management responsibilty for Onyx, where at the time was at the end of their Imagez RIP (MSDOS-based), and I was the first product manager for Postershop. I spent a few more years there, and ended up leaving for the east coast, and started my own company doing fine art reproduction on canvas (mostly as a wholesaler). That's where I am presently. I am missing and skipping a lot of details (4th amendment issues -- <grin> ), but I have been involved in digital printing, color management, and workflow issues since way before they became buzzwords. You'll find that I really don't have much of an ego, but will always help when asked. I found out a few things while I grew up in hi-tech: 1. There is only one dumb question - that's the one you didn't ask. 2. If you absolutely knew the answer a few months ago, it has changed by now. 3. If I don't know the answer, I should say "I don't know". But I should always try to find out. (remember rule #2) 4. Everything is subjective and dynamic to the CUSTOMER issue. Please don't compare my job on EWF to what I will provide here. It's all about the rules and the topic. I think many of you that think I was too quick to react will eventually be happy with my contribution. Thanks for joining this new forum, and please don't hesitate to email us directly at: colorvision_group-owner@yahoogroups.com -- If you have a complaint, do this directly. I'm not the list owner, but just a volunteer willing to help. If you want to discuss anything directly, my email address is km-yahoo@.... Looking forward!!!! Thanks John! -kris ------------------------------------- Kris Moler 'Canvas-photo.com' 52 Upland Ave. East Greenwich, RI 02818 401-885-5696
