Canon 5D Mark lll Firmware Update Released; but with OS Limitations

I haven't tried it, but can't you just copy it to the memory stick and run the firmware on the camera? I am on Windows 7 Pro x64 so I didn't have any problems.

I'm hoping that this is a mistake on Canon's part; but given a sad history with devices bricked by failed firmware updates in the past, I don't want to encourage people to circumvent Canon's directions with a $3500 camera...

Well it is an option even in the docs to use the memory stick to do the upgrade.
As far as I know, it is a supported option.
