Hi To Everyone,

Just a quick intro. I am a serious amateur landscape photographer who has sold a couple images, and also like printing big prints of my favorite shots for my own walls at home. I have an older Spyder 3 Pro calibrator that I have had for a while, and a wide gamut monitor, an Asus PA246, that I calibrated with it. I shoot RAW, and use LIghtroom for my post processing. My system runs Win7 64bit. I have an older Canon Pixma Pro 9000, but after lots of trouble getting output that I was happy with, I have more recently been printing through Zenfolio (which is where my images and website are hosted) with mostly better results, although I still seem to have questions about colorspace management and color profile usage.

I feel like I SHOULD be able to understand and implement my color management much better, but I seem to have lots of issues, and so many questions I am not really sure exactly where to start.

So I guess I will try to hang out here and get a little acquainted with the forum, and then try to ask some pertinent questions soon.

Best Regards,

Mike L.

Mike:

Good to have you here. I need to get my printers working again and
produce some new profiles, so it's been a while since I've calibrated my
equipment.

Go ahead and ask your questions. This group is monitored by Datacolor,
so you will probably get some quick answers.

Hello Mike L -

Understanding color management, for me, was like learning Photo Shop. I had to acquire the knowledge almost one fragment at a time, over many months. Calibrating the monitor was easy, and I think it is probably easy for most people. It's also a critical first step, without which none of the subsequent steps mean anything. Printer profiling and the use of various color spaces is more complicated, and it took me much longer.

My choice was to stay with one set of modalities for almost all of my "work" (I'm just an amateur, and my photos are made for me, family, and friends - but I do care greatly about color accuracy, exposure, and the like). My choice was to shoot RAW, edit only in Photo Shop using Adobe RGB color space, and print through Qimage - though printing with Photo Shop would have worked almost as easily.

Profiling the printer was the hard part, for me. I used various DataColor products for that, starting many years before DataColor had its present name. Because of unresolvable support difficulties with my copy of SpyderPRINT 4.2.3, I've moved away from DataColor now, but many others still have excellent luck with DataColor products.

Hi Bill Further to my email a few minutes ago I thought I would let you know the problems I had with the Delll 27 monitor and Spyder 4. When I was running the
