May depend on what you connect it to. The acoustic piano side of things has been designed to play the piano reliably at lower levels than any system available today, so the electronics may have been designed to match that goal.

I believe the new version of the E3 (possibly only available in certain markets) has model which can handle XP MIDI files, but I would have to check on that.
