Re: [disklavier] playback in different voice

2013-05-28 by Spencer chase

if anyone needs to change patches (program changes) and does not want to use a sequencer, i have a program that does it pretty easily. you do need to have files that already have voices selected by patches as opposed to ones that just play acoustic piano by default and you need to know the patch number of the new voice you want. the program does not make bank selects but most midi files use the default bank. you can look up patch numbers online for the general midi bank.

As far as I know, the voice selection is not saved anywhere. Your best bet (probably) is to load the file into a sequencer (Cubase or similar) on your computer and insert a 'Bank Select' and 'Program Change' message at the start of the song. The disklavier should respond to that when you play the file. If it's a Yamaha MusicSoft file, the file might be protected, but you may be able to record it as a MIDI file in real-time on your sequencer.

I follow the diections, make the changes and Sve as a new file or just Save. It always plays back in Grand Piano. What am I doing wrong?
