God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen

2001-12-17 by Todd Muncy

I had my lesson with Ken Healy this afternoon. After completing my latest attempt at God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen out of my Level 2 Primer Book. Kendell, encouraged by all the kind things everyone said about his last contribution, agreed to record his interpretation of the same melody. Needless to say, 95% of the notes were not on the sheet music. Same routine as last time. Two minutes to play around with an arrangement, two and a half minutes to record a single take and out the door to the next lesson. The wonderful result is attached.
I asked him about the midi files that sourced the CD my wife purchased. He purchased a production run of 500, which sold out in a heartbeat. Says he should've gone for 1,000. The source material for the entire CD is Midi. He said he would upload some of the midi files used for a few of the pieces, but the finished product goes way beyond the XG superset of General midi, with special string and voice sampling sets, etc. and can't be completely reproduced on a disklavier without a lot of special external sound gear.
Let Ken know what you think of this piece. He's a busy guy and we might need to nudge him a bit to get him to unlock some more of his midis.
Enjoy.
