Re: [disklavier] Virtual PRC with Windows 8 and Ipad ?

2014-12-16 by George Frederick Litterst

Good evening, everyone.

The Virtual PRC is a Java application that lives on the hard drive of a Mark IV. If you have a Mark IV that is connected to your home area network, you should be able to see the Mark IV as a networked computer. Its name will start with “dkv…." When you probe the hard drive, you’ll find a folder called DNA. Inside DNA you’ll find the Java application.

(You’ll also find the From/To PC folder that can be used to move files to and from the computer.)

Your security and anti-virus settings must be set such that you can give permission for the Virtual PRC to run. If you do so, you’ll probably find that you can control a Mark IV more easily from the Virtual PRC than you can from the actual PRC.

The Virtual PRC will give you access to all of the features of the instrument except for the network settings, calibration programs, and the miscellaneous little programs that live on the actual PRC.

The Virtual PRC is not accessible from an iPad. There is an iPad app from Yamaha, however, that you can use to access some of the basic functions of the instrument. However, its feature set is not as complete as that of the Virtual PRC.
