Good afternoon, everyone. Just a follow-up point regarding the serial ports on Mark III and earlier Disklaviers. At this point, these serial ports are obsolete. You would have to use an ancient Mac or PC with such a port. As Bill mentioned, you should only use the MIDI ports and set the To Host switch to MIDI. We are using the disklavier for home use for 4 people who are playing … 3 learning the piano. We have a pair of headphones and floppy disks coming with friends who are visiting next week. What are "must have equipment” for people using a disklavier like us who want to use it to its fullest? > > The manuals from that era obviously say to connect the computer (mac in our case) to the MarkIIXG unit via the host port (8-pin). However, I have not been able to find a cable on Amazon or the internet that goes from 8-pin disklavier unit to usb in mac. Am I correct in understanding there isn’t a 8-pin~usb cable on the market? > > If there isn't such a cable (8-pin~usb), could I connect the mac to the unit by a midi in/out to usb cable? I have seen many of these on the internet/amazon. If yes, would I need to move the switch by the host port of the unit to “mac”? > > Thank you so much for your help and any suggestions, > > Matt > >
