RE: [disklavier] Yamana UD-FD01 Discontinued

2017-07-28 by Aaron Zornes

My group of DK friends are using 10-year old Lenovo (IBM) ThinkPads whose FD drive works perfect for this app (and run older Windows for various DK utilities)

We also had hit-or-miss with various $10-12 TEAC brand external FD drives from AMZN

If they didn’t work, they sent them back at AMZN cost

Good luck!

The Yamaha FD definitely works. Other brands are hit or miss. I believe it has something to do with pin assignments.

I am not sure if Yamaha still has any UDF01s in inventory.

The best thing would be to "borrow" a UDF01, load the floppies to internal memory and then give the UDF01 back.

Yamaha floppies are protected. As a result, generic USB floppy drives won't read the disks.

There are a couple of drives that will work:

Iomega #32633

LaCie #706018

Was thinking of purchasing a DKC-850 and transfer my floppy disc contents onto this unit via the Yamama Floppy Disk drive.

Is the UD-FD01 proprietary or would a generic USB floppy drive work?

Thanks
