Re: [disklavier] RE: Midi Sequencing Software ???

I am running Cakewalk home studio 2002 and Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 on windows 10. There are issues such as getting outputs to work and Midi OX is of little help in Win 10. Your home cakewalk version 9 is probably as likely to work as the pro version. There were some tricks to get it to work which i forget but i think i remember the person who helped me figure it out and can ask him what we did.

There is also the possibility of running your cakewalk in virtual box but there may be issues with getting output. I think that i can run cake 9 in virtual XP but i don't think i can get sound output. did not try too hard because it works without virtual box.

One strange thing is that if i associate MIDI files with cake 9 and double click one, it opens cake 9 but i can not get sound output. If i open cake 9 and from there open a MIDI file it works fine. obviously some little bits of strangeness that effect both methods differently and there certainly be more problems in the future as Microsoft eliminates more legacy support.

Subject: [disklavier] RE: Midi Sequencing Software ???

Good Morning to all:

I have some questions for the group

I have been using Cakewalk Home Studio version 9 (a really old program) on a Windows 7 based laptop to drive the Disklavier which his a Mark II upgraded with a DKC-850 via the MIDI interface

It is easy and simple to use. I can change channels, tracks, volume, velocity, etc. all on the fly - in real time. All through the MIDI interface of the DKC-850. The graphics are clean and uncluttered and it is just a joy of a program to use with the Diskalvier

Does anyone have or know of a windows based program like the old home studio that works on Windows 10? I am worried that when my windows 7 machine dies, I will be unable to run Home Studio on a windows 10 or later platform

In addition, I now have access to a recent vintage macbook pro laptop - does anyone know of a program for the mac universe like Cakewalk home studio I could use with the same midi interface to drive the Disklavier. I am inexperienced in the MAC universe but I assume I could run a program on the MAC and drive the Disklavier with the same USB - MIDI interface

All of this is for downloading midi files off the internet and rearranging them via the sequencing software so they "work" on the disklavier and the DKC-850

I would greatly appreciate anyone's knowledge, expertise and experience

I have a hit a brick wall trying to get these questions answered, so I thought the Disklavier user group would be good place to ask

Thank you all for your time
