Not necessarily.\ufffd Type 0 MIDI files have all their MIDI events in one logical track within the file (instead of multiple logical tracks playing in parallel - a Type 1 file), but even in a Type 0 file, the events can still use multiple MIDI channels.\ufffd Changing all of the events to point to channel 1 can be done as a separate operation (possibly at the same time using the right software), but unless the piece is already a solo piano recording, there are likely to be collisions from doing so, leading to notes stuck on during playback and similar problems.
In general, if you preview a MIDI file using software like Windows Media Player and hear non-piano instruments used in the arrangement, remapping all of those to channel 1 is not going to magically produce a musically-pleasant result (especially if drum tracks are remapped).
