Hello All and happy new year
I've been editing midis from several websites and
I've found that veloset alone wont work for XG files (ie files that have more
than just the piano) in many cases.
Here's an example. Lets say you have a track where the
drum velocity is 120 and the paino is 50-60 (this is a true example in several
cases). What happens if you put this into veloset is that it tells you quite a
bit of the velocity is in the 100+ range so you'd probably try to turn down max
velocity by 20 or so. But doing that makes the piano barely audible.
Veloset has no way of telling you which of the
velocities in the graph are attributable to the disklavier piano tracks!!!
This is an unacceptible shortcoming in many
cases.
I found that it doesnt take long to make
necessary adjustments in power tracks or cakewalk. Veloset can still be used to
tweak the final mix.
Veloset seems to be excellent for
editing piano only files--I think its the simplest and fastest
velocity-adjusting software I've seen in my very limited experience--I love the
graphic chart.
I'd be curious to hear other opinions/viewpoints...I'm very
new at this...my current model disklavier is only a few weeks old.
