You can play files downloaded from the internet on a Mark II without using a DSR1, but you will need to do some extra work. You can use the file utilities on this site to convert all the standard MIDI files you download to ESEQ format, and put them on double density diskettes. You would also need to buy a tone generator to hear the ensemble sounds. The DSR1 would certainly be more convenient, as you would be able to use the standard high density disks, not have to bother with file conversions, and have a built-in tone generator for the XG sounds.
