I don't know that I would call it greed. After all, Yamaha does something strange, like PAY artists to record and produce those PianoSoft disks you buy. Thanks to people like Spencer Chase we have wonderful libraries of music available in MIDI format from player piano rolls which was probably royalty free. I am a believer in artists being able to earn a reasonable living and provide for their children. But I do think the process can be taken too far as upheld by the Supreme Court last week. Our honorable Congress and yours has only allowed pre 1930's music to enter the public domain, and Disney and Sony bought them off so that Mickey Mouse will not enter the public domain for at least another 95 years! That is what is really at stake here. Our art, music and literature has been purchased by large corporations so that nothing created in our parent's pasts will be available in our lifetimes, our children's lifetimes, and our grandchildren's lifetimes for free. I sometimes think that is the reason "classical" music survives so well; yes it sounds nice, but it is FREE!
