The serial number should be on the purchase agreement. Whoever you are buying this piano from should be able to give you the serial number before it is shipped. How else will you know if the correct piano was delivered to you? The serial number only tells you when the piano was built. It takes time to get it shipped to the US. It could also have been sitting in a warehouse for months! If you went price shopping or whatever, and never laid eyes on the instrument before you purchased it, it may have also been sitting on a showroom floor for a while. You could pay a Disklavier piano technician to evaluate the piano before it is shipped and you could always call Yamaha at 1-800-854-1569 to check the date of manufacture. That the piano is not in a shipping crate could be a plus. It means that at least at one time it was unpacked and checked over - possibly regulated and tuned. You may wish to download the latest software update from the Yamaha website to make sure it has the latest software. Then again, you probably have complete confidence in the people who sold you this instrument, so why worry?
