John,
I have an MX88 which had a new diskette drive installed last year by
a Yamaha technician. The light on the drive stays on all the time
and I believe this is the way it is supposed to operate. (The old
drive which was no longer reading discs correctly, only lighted when
it accessed data.) Yamaha provided the new drive under warranty and
my piano tuner - who is a certified tech, put it in for me.
