Dear Maureen, I wish I knew what is wrong. I have seen the "disk unusable" message at the beginning of the formatting process a couple of times. When it happens, I toss the disk in the garbage and grab another. The disks that I use are not new. Some have "DS,DD 720Kb" or "DS,DD 1.0Mb" printed on the metal protector. Either of these typically works fine. The square hole in the corner must be closed with the sliding plastic tab or blocked with tape. Could it be possible that you're trying to format extremely old single-sided 360K disks? Rich Maureen <maureen@...> wrote: Rishard, I did not make mysylf clear. I am following the instructions you repeat here and get the following response from my system: Insert new disk for drive A: and press ENTER when ready... The type of the file system is FAT. Formatting 720K Invalid media or Track 0 bad - disk unusable. C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator> I have tried with several brand new discs. Any suggestions? --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Find out what made the Top Yahoo! Searches of 2003
