No. You may have missed the page that lists all 53 contestants:
http://www.piano-e-competition.com/contestants2.htm
That page contains a link to the contestant page for Wenli Zhou.
2 I have played the enhanced midi files in VanBasco's Jukebox which
shows all the text within a midi file but no Titles.
The title info that you are looking for is definitely not in these files.
3 Yes the text is there but it is in a Metaevent as you say but if no
program can read it why put it there?
The decision was made to make the effort to optimize these files for Disklavier users. The titles do show up on the Disklavier, regardless as to whether the directory files are present.
Other MIDI devices are problematic. Some don't read the sequence name, others do but only display 8 or 12 characters, et cetera.
There was no good reason not to add the sequence name MIDI event to these files other than the additional time and effort.
4 I even tried the midi files in my CVP but again no sign of the
titles. All I got was the file names come up. Nor was there anything
in the Lyrics page.
I don't know what techniques have been used over the years to display song names on the CVP series Clavinovas. I can say, however, that the P-e-C E-SEQ files will display the first 12 title characters on a CVP 208 IF the .fil directory file is present.
5 The Yamplayer will display the title of a midi file if it conforms
to the standard format. Midi FF command 03 is used for the Title.
That makes sense. I don't think that Yamaha has published any info that would enable people to decode the sequencer-specific meta event that holds the Yamaha title info.
