There are a number of utilities out there that will do this
quite nicely, such as that suggested by Carol. I've had
considerable success with TiMidiTy. See:

http://onefreehost.com/saxguru/Timidity.html

Tim Brechbill, the author, has put together a first rate
converter that has within it, IMHO, a killer piano sound font.
To my ear, a very satisfying and enjoyable conversion.

Suggest you download the "Full Version, 6.8 megs". It will
want to install itself into c:\timidity. Using Windows' file
manager (Explore), navigate into that directory, right click on
"timw32g.exe" and select "Create Shortcut". Right click on
that shortcut and drag it (move) onto your desktop.

It's opening dialog box is quite modest. Open
Config/Preference/Output and select "RIFF WAVE file". Click
on "File/Open File", then select a midi file you want to
convert. The Open File dialog box will automatically close,
presenting you with what appears to be a conventional "Play"
panel. Click on the green start arrow, and let it do its
thing.

File conversion takes as long as the file's play time. So,
if you've got a 5 minute performance, it will take 5 minutes to
convert. The .wav file will be deposited in the same
directory. The conversion process will not produce any sound
through the sound card to your speakers.

You can convert a single file, a group of midi files, or an
entire directory. If an entire directory, make sure you have
plenty of disk space available, and let it run all night.

After conversion, navigate your File manager to the new .wav
file, click on it, and Windows will automatically select an
appropriate "play" utility, likely WinAmp or Real Player.

Hope this helps a little.

Regards,

Terry
