Laptop XP Pro to M-Audio USB to DSK

2004-07-03 by yamahamale

Hello,
Last time I was here I was connecting a Windows98SE desktop with the
DSK using a Yamaha cable that connected to my PC's game port and then
to the DSK's "To Host" port and selected PC2 for the "Host Select"
slide switch. Back then I remember downloading a "CBX driver".

Now I have a laptop XP Pro with USB ports and no game port. So I
bought a M-Audio USB 2X2 interface today. This time I did not downlaod
a CBX driver because I couldn't find support information that I could
understand as being specific for my situation. I did however download
the drivers for the M-Audio. I set the DSK's "Host Selct" switch to
MIDI instaed of PC2. I also have Midi cables connecting to the DSK's
Midi In and Out instead of the "To Host" port. I am still using "Power
Tracks" software.

First, it's late and I am now using headphones. So far, the DSK and
laptop can see and play each other, which is great but I am having
some problems. Such as when I open a midi file and play it through
"Power Tracks", it works well. But then when I play the DSK it might
not respond correctly with the software anymore even though I see it
being played in Power Tacks. Sometimes the DSK doesn't have any
sustain in it when I play it. I have to restart the DSK and everything
works again. Also after I play a midi file or start recording my own
piano playing and then pause and go back, no sounds can be heard and
the DSK's "Play/Pause" button is flashing. If I press the "Stop"
button on the DSK then the DSK starts immediately playing the Midi
file or whatever the software is playing at the time.

I'm wondering if NOT installing the CBX Driver is causing any
problem. Of course, there could be incorrect software settings, either
in the laptop or DSK, going on too.

Any ideas? Regards, Mike
