Fw: Disclavier project

2004-07-21 by Todd Muncy

I just received this unusual email from a Jon Rubin in Oakland, CA, who
found my family web site while googling for disklavier. Anyone interested
in helping him with his project should contact him directly at
jonrubin@....

Note to Jon who is copied. This email has been sent to the 1194 members of
our Yahoo Disklavier Group. You may want to consider joining our group by
following this link: http://Yahoogroups.com/group/disklavier/join. Good
luck with your project.

> I am an artist living in Oakland California looking to create a unique
> artwork involving Disklavier pianos. I am working on a project for the
> 30th anniversary of Southern Exposure Gallery in San Francisco. For this
> show I am producing a project that needs the participation of three
> Disklavier Piano owners. The idea is this-- Whenever someone in Southern
> Exposure\ufffds Gallery office makes or receives a phone call, the voices in
> the phone conversation will be converted into a MIDI stream and sent via
> the internet to a remote Disclavier piano that will "play" the
> conversation live. The algorithm that translates the gallery
> conversation(s) into music is designed to sensitively reflect the
> particular auditory personality of each caller, thus creating a unique
> musical composition. The second part is that each remotely located piano
> will have a web-cam recording the piano as it plays and sending the
> video and audio back to the Gallery to be shown live in the main
> exhibition space. Even though the project will be displayed in San
> Francisco, the Disklavier piano owner/participants can be from anywhere.
> The show runs from September 10 through October 23. The piano owners
> need only to have a DSL internet connection and an interest in
> participating in a unique project.
