Good afternoon, everyone.

I love playing the piano layered with certain XG tones (on my DC3A). How
can I record myself doing this? Once I push the record button, the VOICE
option goes off and it only allows me to record the piano portion. I
realize that I could probably add the additional layer after I have recorded
it, but I really need to HEAR the voice being played during my recording.

Following the directions for multi-track recording by setting yourself up to record an ensemble track (a track that will be assigned to any channel from 3-9 or 11-16). During the recording process, you will hear the ensemble voice that you have chosen AND the acoustic piano (assuming that you have not gone into Silent mode).

When you play back your recording at this point, you will only hear the ensemble voice. So, you should use the Disklavier's track copy feature to copy this track to channel (track) 1. Then, you will hear track 1 played on your Disklavier and the ensemble track played by the tone generator.

NOTE: Although track 1 is playing on your Disklavier, it currently has an ensemble voice assigned to it and this MIDI file will not play with a piano sound when played back on any other instrument. If you intend to share the file with non-Disklavier owners, be sure to change the voice assignement on track 1 to a piano voice. Then, you will have the result that you want.
