Re: [disklavier] Playlist player and interface for windows?

2005-03-03 by Richard Cerio

Hello Ben,

I bought a Voyetra Record Producer Midi Editor which comes with a 10 foot
USB to double DIN plug cable - about $40

Whereas you mention that a sequencer is overkill, the VanBasco, great
player that it is, does not have the capability to modify the channels
and/or insure the song title always shows on the display.

There may be other programs that do both and if so you can bet you'll hear
about them from the knowledgeable and always helpful people on this forum.

Dear group,

I hope this is a good place to ask this. I'm new here and the reason I
subscribed is the following:

My (very non-technical) sister has a Yamaha Disklavier upright. She
asked me (the one with the home studio) if she could play other files
than just the one's on the floppie disks from Yamaha. So I explained
midi files a bit.

Ok, so now I've got to get her a USB<>Midi interface for her laptop
running WinXP. Probably something simple like the M-audio midisport
uno, or the ESI romi/o. They are both in the 45 euro range. If you have
any recommendations, I'd appreciate them.

I also need a simple midi file player, something with a playlist, and
some sort of capability to mute instruments (drums probably don't sound
to good on the Disklavier). It shouldn't be too technical or
complicated. A sequencer program, even an entry-level, is probably way
overkill. Most standard media players that can handle midi files, don't
allow you to mute various channels. I am not really at home on Windows
in this regard, so I could really use some input here.

I browsed the archive a bit, and found a reference to
vanBasco's Karaoke Player. Is that indeed a good solution for my
sister? Are there any other (free or cheap) alternatives I could look
at?

Thanks very much,
Ben
