Re: [disklavier] RE: article in tomorrow's (June 5, 2005) NY Times

2005-06-05 by Robert Welcyng

An interesting account of the "resurrection" of Cortot at the recent Mei-Ting Sun recital at Raleigh, NC, and some philosophical matters about just what comprises a recording versus a live performance. Anyone may read the article by signing up (free) at the New York Times Website:

http://www.nytimes.com/pages/arts/

Members may also find interesting a book review article in the June 6, 2005, issue of The New Yorker, "The Record Effect," page 94. Three books are described that deal with effects that advances in recording technology have had, over the years, on incentives to compose and to perform live, and also influences that recording has had on the styles of instrumental expression chosen by performers. Interesting stuff!

I just read the article. It’s great stuff and fantastic exposure. Congratulations!

Just in case anyone thinks I’m time traveling again, The Times delivers many of the Sunday sections with my Saturday paper.

I’ll try to capture the link to the article in nytimes.com tomorrow and add it to the links section of our Yahoo group.

There’s a major article about our work in tomorrow’s Sunday June 5, 2005 New York Times newspaper, on the front page of the Arts & Leisure section, with a full half-page follow-up. An enormous amount of coverage, very well done (except for the term “Bsendorfer Disklavier”).

Thanks for everyone’s support through the years - John Q.
