The DCD1 AND a compatible or upgraded Disklavier control unit together supply this feature. NOTE: There are some Smart PianoSoft recordings that are not recommended for a Disklavier that does not have a built-in CD drive. The reason is that some songs were recorded sharp or flat on certain albums and the CD needs to respond to tuning commands from the MIDI file to make things sound acceptable. I think that the DCD1 adequately supports about 80% of the available Smart PianoSoft recordings. > I have purchased a Yamaha DCD1+PS CD drive. Good. > I have purchased a Yamaha MU2000EX Tone Generator. I searched for this on the Internet and mostly find information on Japanese web sites. I assume that this was not a product that was made for North America or Europe. Nonetheless, I have noted from its specs that it has the XG sound set which means that it also has GM. However, there is no mention of DOC. DOC (or Disk Orchestra Collection) is an older sound set. You may not have a need for it, although some older PIanoSoft Plus recordings and recordings made for Clavinova use it. > I want to know if the DSR1 module is the ONLY missing component, > where to get a good price on one, You are correct that this is the only missing component. > and how to hook ALL of this > equipment up to each other so I don't destroy any of my investments. Start by noting that the DSR1 has 2 sets of MIDI ports. The ones marked Piano In and Piano Out are for connecting to the DSR1 and the original control unit. The ones marked MIDI In and MIDI Out are for use with external gear (such as a computer). Connect the cables as follows: DSR1 Piano Out <--> DCD1 MIDI In DSR1 Piano In <--> Disklavier MIDI Out DCD1 MIDI Out <--> Disklavier MIDI In DSR1 Audio Output <--> DCD1 Aux In DCD1 Aux In <--> powered speakers or amplifier > The DKC100R has: a 720k floppy drive, Midi In, Midi Out, and > separate cable to the piano. Once you have incorporated the DCD1 into your setup, you can ignore the DKC100R (but it has to be turned on, of course). The MIDI sounds will come out of the DSR1 (which means that your MU2000EX is no longer needed. The DSR1 will read DD and HD floppy disks as well as the E-SEQ, SMF Type 0, and SMF Type 1 formats. It will also record in both E-SEQ and SMF Type 0 formats. (Your current control unit will not read or record SMF Type 0 nor will it play SMF Type 1.) It should be noted that by adding the DSR1, you will have immediate compatibility with all sorts of additional MIDI files that you can find on the Internet or purchase from other sources than Yamaha. You can do the upgrade yourself. One more note: After you have connected everything, you should make sure that your DSR1 and your DCD1 have the latest firmware updates. Unless your DCD1 was one of the original ones, it is ready to go. If not, it needs an update as does the DSR1. Call Yamaha Piano Service: (800) 854-1569 between 8:30-5:00 PST. Push 2 at the first menu choice and 2 at the second menu choice. They will be able to supply you with a DCD1 + PS manual and update floppies. Yet another note: when everything is updated, you can actually do video-synchronized recordings using the DSR1.
