Re: [disklavier] disklavier as accompanist?

2006-01-10 by George F. Litterst

Good morning, everyone.

I can recommend some additional sources for professional, classical accompaniments, vocal and instrumental.

Rehearsalnet
Timothy Hester, a fabulous pianist, is the director of accompanying in the music department at the U. of Houston. He runs a terrific program that trains pianists in this art. In addition to teaching, he schedules young pianists to work with instrumentalist and vocal students during lessons and performances. But, there are never enough pianists to go around, 24 hours of the day, 7 days a week.

So, Maestro Hester records lots of accompaniments on Disklavier and makes them available for student use. Gradually, he is making this library available to the outside world commercially. And, he will record pieces on request.

Check out the options at:

www.rehearsalnet.com

www.YamahaMusicSoft.com
You can find albums of Italian and French Art Songs recorded on Disklavier at this site as well as 6 volumes of flute accompaniments.

MusAcom
A few years ago, this company recorded hundreds of accompaniments for classical vocal solos on Disklavier. They put together rather impressive packages that included diction CDs and other materials in addition to the Disklavier recordings. I am not sure whether the Disklavier recordings are available separately, and I find the web site a bit confusing. However, if you are serious about classical vocal music, I strongly recommend that you contact this company:

Double-Reed Accompaniments
You can find hundreds of excellent MIDI accompaniments (recorded on Clavinova) for double-reed instruments at:

Good afternoon, everyone.

Additional comments:

Pianist and well known Suzuki accompanist Linda Perry (music
professor at Southern Ill. U.) recorded piano accompaniments to the
first 6 volumes of Suzuki violin music. You can find these volumes at
many string dealers, such as Shar (www.sharmusic.com).

You don't have to be a Suzuki student to appreciate most of these
recordings. The upper level books are comprised of standard violin
literature. Best of all, they were recorded on Disklavier and
therefore sound great on playback.

They are published by Warner Bros., now part of Alfred Music
(www.alfred.com).

Note, further, that many Disklaviers have an auxiliary pedal input.
You can use a volume pedal (like a Yamaha FC7) or a foot-switch pedal
(like a Yamaha FC4 or 5) to control start and stop with your foot. If
you use the volume pedal, you can also adjust the tempo. See the
links below.
