"J. Stanley Productions Inc." <jsproductions@...> says: > Re: Batch23 Uploaded > ???? The reason I posted this message to the Disklavier group is that the midi files I have posted on my web site will all play very nicely on a Disklavier piano, preferably by a direct cable link from a nearby computer (USB) to the Disklavier (Midi-IN). The feedback I have been receiving from the community of Disklavier owners is most encouraging. Basically, these midi files emerge incidental to the primary project to capture and archive the content of century old piano rolls while still possible to do so. Within the player piano industry at the turn of the last century were a tiny percentage of reproducing pianos. Unlike most player pianos that simply play a melody line without dynamics, reproducing pianos have the rare ability to faithfully reproduce the expression and intent of the original artist. Within the 4,000+ midi files on my web site, are some that emerge from scanning piano rolls intended for playback on reproducing pianos equipped with the Ampico, Duo-Art and Welte competing reproducing systems. These midi files will play back on a Disklavier with a full range of dynamics as an emulation of the original performance. Many of the legenday masters of the piano at the turn of the last century made recordings for these unusual player pianos, leaving behind a legacy of their original piano stylings. The project is archival preservation of the content of century old player piano music rolls. The midi files, emerging as a byproduct of the archival process, are easy to create and should not be denied to the contemporary player piano community. They are made freely available for personal enjoyment, and should not be used for commercial purposes. Hope this helps to explain the intent of my earlier message.
