Actually I sent a mail a few years ago to Yamaha to ask if their XG
synthesizer would support output to a disk file. They said that that was not
planned. So I gave up on this path at that time.

For my own recordings I use a Soundblaster Live Gold. This is a digital
audio board, and when you record its midi output everything stays
in the digital domain. This accomplishes the same thing as Audio
Compositor does, and relies on the quality of the samples in the sound
banks. There are some pretty good piano samples available on the web (search
for 'soundfont').

But a Disklavier, it ain't...

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
