There is software to do MIDI over IP already, but there are some issues with this if the link is of low quality (in the past the focus was doing this over the internet rather than over LAN). I wasn't aware the MkIV used extended midi signals, just extensions in MIDI files when played directly on the machine (ie you can get much higher bandwidth than you can over a 31.25kbps midi link).
