$74 dollars later....the LCD problem is diagnosed.  It seems that 
some components came loose off the LCD board.  Because the board is 
printed circuitry, there isn't a chance of reattaching and the 
technician tried to call Yamaha today for a replacement.  Yamaha 
wasn't open today..."carpet holiday"...what the heck is that? 

MIKE - it looks fairly simple plug-in procedure.  Do you recommend me 
going the distance and having the tech install the new board?  I 
really hate paying someone for something I enjoy doing....keeping in 
mind I have already paid him to diagnose.
